Here’s a little language learning secret that no one really speaks about...
Most existing German language courses and apps… simply don’t work!
That’s because they use an old, outdated way of teaching German. It’s an old-fashioned, traditional way of teaching, based on memorisation.

You’re given phrases. Then you're told to repeat them, like a parrot.
You can't remember German through other courses because they use the old Parrot Method of learning

Here’s a rough idea of how 'Story Learning' teaches you German so well.
Imagine you’re trying to solve a mystery. Here’s the mystery:
You’re on vacation in Mexico. One day, you get hungry. You have a choice of three snacks: burritos, tacos and tostados. Two of the snacks are fine. The other contains poison. But you don’t know which! How will you choose which snack to eat?
How would you solve this mystery?
Now, I don’t know how you tried to solve this mystery in your mind. But actually, that wasn’t the point!
You see, when you read about this mystery, you automatically learned something.
You learned about three kinds of Mexican foods:
• burritos
• tacos
• tostados
You weren’t trying to learn anything. The learning just happened naturally as you thought about the mystery.
And because you don’t want to get poisoned, you probably thought carefully about it!
This is how 'Story Learning' is designed too. You learn German naturally as you read and listen to the story!

I'm not a complete beginner. Is this course still relevant for me?

What variety of German do you teach in the course?
The course is based on standard German, or Hochdeutsch. It's the offical German that everyone understands!

With German Uncovered we aim to take you through A1-A2 level, to the point where you’re ready to begin a B1 level intermediate course.
There are 20 course modules, and each module contains 7.5 hours of study time (minimum), which comprises:
• Reading and listening to one chapter of the story
• Cognates activity and lesson
• Vocabulary and grammar lessons plus practice worksheets
• Pronunciation training plus exercises
• Speaking activities
As such the total study time on the course is 150-200 hours, which is plenty to get you to B1 level.
(If you do as we suggest and spend as much time as possible with immersion - listening and reading to the story in German - the study time could be significantly more.)
If you decide to study two modules per week (a reasonable pace), it would take you approximately 10 weeks to complete the course. At a more leisurely pace of one module per week, you would complete the course in 20 weeks.
Can I study at my own pace?
Yes. The course is designed for you to study at your own pace, in a time and place that suits you. The materials never expire. What's more, you get free updates to the course as they are released in the future. The course material is fully downloadable, so if you don’t have a good internet connection, you can download what you need, and access it any time, any place.
